   Brass is a copper-zinc alloy, with its own unique oxidation pattern that distinguishes it from zinc alloys, pure iron, and stainless steel. Many people tend to confuse it: brass is not 'immune to color change', but rather has controllable, beneficial, and sustainable anti-oxidation properties, which are the core reason why it remains durable as high-end furniture hardware.

I. Basic Principle: The Unique Oxidation Mechanism of Brass

Pure iron oxidizes to form loose rust, which continuously corrodes inward and eventually breaks through;

Zinc alloys oxidize and tend to flake off, peel, and crack;

While brass (Cu-Zn alloy) oxidizes in an air environment into two stages:

1. Initial oxidation (darkening, slight yellowing)

The surface copper elements combine with oxygen and water vapor to form a dense layer of cuprous oxide film. This film adheres tightly to the metal surface, like a natural protective layer, preventing oxygen from further penetrating into the base material interior.

Key point: The oxide film is dense and will not cause deep corrosion.

2. Long-term oxidation (forming patina/copper green)

In a dry home environment, slow oxidation results in a warm and soft patina;

In a high-humidity environment where it is constantly exposed to acids, alkalis, and cooking fumes, a small amount of copper green (basic carbonate copper) may form.

In a normal indoor living room or bedroom with a dry environment, it is very unlikely to have a large area of copper green.

Brief summary:

Brass will not be completely rust-free or remain permanently shiny, but it is very difficult to 'wear out'. The oxidation occurs only on the surface, while the underlying structure remains stable for a long time. This is the core advantage of brass in terms of oxidation resistance.

II. Four Core Characteristics of Anti-Oxidation for Brass Pull Handles

1.The oxidation only occurs on the surface, and the base material is not easily eroded.

The oxidation film isolates the air and prevents corrosion from spreading into the interior of the metal.

Even after being used for over a decade, the overall structure, thickness and strength of the handle will not be damaged. It will not rust and break like iron hardware or age and flake off like zinc alloy.

The red-cast yellow copper base material has a dense structure with no air holes or gaps. Water vapor is difficult to penetrate the interior, further enhancing the anti-corrosion performance.

2. The oxidation form is malleable and can be repaired.

The stainless steel finish remains almost unchanged for a long time; once the electroplated coating is damaged, the underlying layer corrodes rapidly and cannot be repaired.

If the brass pull handle oxidizes and becomes dark or develops spots, it can be restored to a nearly brand-new metallic appearance by polishing, cleaning, and sanding to remove the surface oxide layer.

3. In a home drying environment, the oxidation process is slow and controllable.

In an ordinary indoor environment without strong acids, high humidity, or seaside salt spray conditions:

The oxidation process of the brushed and antique-looking brass handles is very slow. Over time, they gradually change color and gradually form a natural patina.

This slow and uniform oxidation is precisely the time-worn texture that retro home decoration aims for.

A matte and oil-sealed protective layer is also provided, which can significantly slow down the oxidation rate and maintain the original color for a long time.

4. Resistant to cooking oil, weak acids and alkalis, suitable for kitchen environment

Bronze has excellent resistance to mild corrosion. The oil stains in the kitchen and short-term contact with weak alkaline cleaners are unlikely to cause rapid corrosion of the base material.

Note: Long-term continuous immersion, 84 disinfectant, and strong alkaline cleaners will damage the surface and accelerate uneven oxidation. Daily use should avoid these.

III. Clarification of Common Cognitive Misunderstandings

1.Misconception: Brass never turns black or oxidizes.

Truth: There is no metal that does not oxidize at all. Brass merely does not undergo continuous corrosion and deterioration. When exposed to air, it will still slowly change color; applying oil coating protection is a common method to delay oxidation.

2. Misconception: Blackening = Poor Product Quality

Truth: Uniform oxidation in a dry environment to form patina is a normal characteristic; only exposure to salt water, strong alkali, and prolonged dampness will result in ugly blemished rust stains.

3. Misconception: Stainless steel offers better oxidation resistance than brass.

Truth: Stainless steel maintains its color permanently and lacks a vintage charm; brass, on the other hand, is superior in terms of structural durability, oxidation aesthetics, and repairability. The product values they pursue are different.

IV. The Value of Application in Home Decoration Hardware

It is precisely because of this unique antioxidant property:

The brass pull handles can achieve a durable structure while maintaining a dynamic and changing appearance. The new version features a refreshing brushed warm gold finish, and over time, it develops a warm and retro patina, becoming more and more charming with use. It perfectly meets the aesthetic demands of French, vintage, and American retro styles.
