Why Brass Hardware Is Winning In 2026 Kitchens & Bathrooms

Modern brass hardware bears almost no resemblance to the shiny gold fixtures from decades past. The finishes have evolved dramatically. Let me break down the three main types you’ll see in 2026.

Brushed brass creates a soft, matte appearance. Manufacturers brush the surface to create fine lines that diffuse light. This eliminates the mirror-like shine of old brass. The result feels contemporary and sophisticated. Most designers I spoke with prefer this finish for its versatility.

Unlacquered brass might sound counterintuitive, but it’s incredibly popular right now. This finish has no protective coating. It develops a natural patina over time as it’s exposed to air and oils from hands. Some people love watching their hardware age and develop character. Others prefer the controlled look of lacquered finishes.

Antique brass offers an aged appearance from day one. Manufacturers apply chemical treatments to create darker tones and variations in the finish. This works beautifully in traditional or farmhouse-style homes. The finish mimics hardware that’s been in place for decades.

The key difference between 2026 brass and 1986 brass is the tone. Modern brass leans cooler and more subtle. It’s not bright yellow gold. Think champagne tones, amber hues, and warm bronze shades. These work with today’s neutral color palettes in ways the old brass never could.

The other major shift is in the shapes and styles available. Today’s brass hardware features clean lines and modern profiles. You’ll find minimal backplates, geometric shapes, and sleek designs that feel current. The brass finish gets applied to contemporary forms, not ornate Victorian styles.

This evolution matters enormously. It means brass hardware can work in modern farmhouse, contemporary, transitional, and even industrial spaces. The finish became a neutral that adds warmth rather than a statement that defines a room’s entire style.
